MARIETTE LEE, RP, CCC
Canadian Certified Counsellor
Mariette is a compassionate and articulate counsellor strongly committed to work that cultivates human flourishing. With a decade of experience ranging from mental health advocacy and community engagement, to academic research and journalism, she understands that we all have stories that we develop within ourselves and carry throughout our lives. For some, these stories arise and take hold during critical moments when the challenges of daily life begin to seem insurmountable. Things like school pressure, identity formation and questioning, family conflict, self-image, life changes, romantic and peer relationships, and trauma are just some of the issues that can cause or enhance feelings of being "stuck" in a depression or anxiety.
Mariette supports teenagers and young adults using an approach that is person-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. She provides a safe and respectful space where she and the client can work together to explore not only their struggles but also their strengths, hopes, and values to build unique coping strategies that work for the individual. She believes that a client’s story deserves to be heard and that young people can be empowered to take mindful, meaningful steps towards the next chapters in their lives.
She received her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and underwent additional training in Narrative Therapy, Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapies, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Mariette is a registered member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and a member in good standing of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Prior to joining Borovay Psychological Services, Mariette worked as a university counsellor, crisis counsellor, and full-time higher education professional with a specific focus on projects related to mental health and academic success.
